'06 1.8s auto transmisson problems

The transmission in my girlfriend's '06 1.8s auto SE with 5K miles has never shifted quite right since it was brand new. Now, when it downshifts under WOT its slips really badly. I also noticed when I drove another one recently that it shifted my smoother than my GF's car. One time, I had to floor it on the hwy at ~60 mph and when it tried to downshift into second gear it just bucked really hard and wouldn't go into gear. In normal driving it shifts normally, just a little rougher than it should.

I made an appointment to have it checked out later this week but I was wondering if this is a common problem on the 1.8s/auto Sentras. I've had a new Nissans but never one with an automatic transmission.

I really hope they don't give me shit about this and fix it right. Everyone I know with a Nissan tells me that the dealer never wants to fix anything under warranty without a huge fight.

Also, is it normal for the cruise control on these to kick out of OD into drive on inclines where its not at all necessary? It was really annoying, and completely unnecessary, on our last roadtrip.

This is not normal.

I am no mechanic but I have similar experience when I get my car back from an accident repair. It turns out it is the Mass Air Flow sensor. So it is better to let the dealer check it out than guessing. I think dealer likes warranty repair because they will get the money from the manufacturer. It is the manufacturer that has to fight with.

Yeah, I know it not normal. I just was wondering if anyone else had experienced this. I'll let you all know what the dealer says.

I hope its not like my last run in with Nissan when it ended up in corporate with attorneys involved. I've always liked Nissan but if they treat me poorly on this one I'll NEVER buy another one.

I never had a problem like that. Mine made a clanking noise when it shifted, kinda like taking a metal rod, and wacking a steel drum. The shifting was a little hard too. Had the tranny replaced 3 days after I bought the car. Dealership said something wasn't machined quite right, cause when they drained it, a whole shi*-ton of metal shavings came out. New tranny has been in for 48k miles, no problems now.
