question installing a catback

i have a question. my friend installed one of those fartcans with a custom bended pipe, after a while he noticed that it sounded raspy and loud. he didn't like the sound anymore. so my question is if he buys the hks sport exhaust and installed it will it have any bad effect? because the mechanic that installed the muffler took away the whole original muffler and put a custom pipe same size as the original. can he still purchase a hks catback and install it after installing a fartcan without having any problems? any info will be appreciated thanks in advance.

did he use a resonator? the absence of a resonator would definitely make it raspy after the muffler burns in.

Yes, he can still get the HKS Sport. Sounds like he has a custom cat-back, so the HKS exhaust will bolt up, no problems. So far, mine's about 6 months old, and it sounds great.

And yes, AsleepAltima is 100% correct. The absence of a resonator will make the muffler really raspy once the muffler is broken in.

then he needs a larger resonator. on my 240 with 3" exhaust, i had to go with a 24" resonator to stop the raspiness. without it, it was unbearable. on my altima with 2.25 exhaust and a magnaflow, i have to go with an 18" or so resonator to get rid of the raspiness i gained when my muffler finally broke completely in.

ask as many questions as you need - thats what we are here for.
you can get a resonator at any exhaust shop. its basically just a glass pack.
