I just bought a sentra with 62000 miles for a deal. The stereo is however missing and theres a problem, the horn cruise control do not work and the airbag light flashes always. Therefore nothing on the wheel works electronically. I have checked all the fuses and have found nothing. Any idea how i can fix these things or what the problem may be? Als othe window molding on the passenger front window is torn off at the top so the window makes an annoying whistle noise when im driving. Im thinking that someone might have torn that off and pryed the window away to steal the stereo before i bought it but who knows.. Any idea where i could buy another one of those pieces? Thanks in advance for the help!!!
Also the check engine light came on a few hours ago...
also i have tried the methods of removing the airbag light, like the diagnostic tinge gives me a 12 code rather than turning off and opening the door, and pressing the driver button method didnt remove it either.. Im really hoping there is some easy fix for all three of these issues.. maybe a relay or something?
The horn/cruise control/airbag light problem is pointing to a steering column coil. There is a black sort of circular plastic box beneath the steering wheel. You can only get to it by removing the steering wheel. That plastic box connects the steering wheel airbag and horn and cruise control buttons to the rest of the car.
Try an Autozone to get the check engine light code.

the only light that flashes is the airbag light. the cruise control will not turn on nor will any lights show, the horn doesnt work, no lights as well.. you think its a coil? Whats the best way to remove the wheel to check the connections? and is it likely that a car this new would have this problem?
That is the only thing that if it goes bad, it will cause the all the problems you see. And I have seen that problem on some 2000 Frontiers, so it is not all that impossible. You will have to remove the airbag/horn on the steering wheel first. You will need to remove the covers on the side of the steering wheel to get to the bolts that hold the airbag/horn to the wheel. Once you get that off and remove the connectors, you will see the nut that holds the steering wheel to the steering column. Remove this and yank off the steering wheel.
You will see all the wires from the horn, cruise controls, and the airbag go to a black circular plastic box. This is the "coil" I am talking about. The insides sort of looks like a coil of wires. (sorry I can't remember what the box is called) This box will need to be replaced. Don't forget to properly mark how the steering wheel orients on the column so that it will be centered when you reinstall it.
they call it a "clock spring". It kinda sounds like the car has been in a fender bender?? or maybe a stolen recovery?? if the air bag went off, most of the times it will melt the wires (clock spring) so dont be suprised when you pull the wheel.

any idea where i can get one of these clocksprings?
I am sure its a "dealer only" part, being a safety item I dont believe a wrecking yard
can legally sell it. Have you checked it out? are the wires melted?

the other day i pulled everything but the dash and didnt see tampered wires, since then ive been trying to figure out my stereo issue (see other thread in this forum section) Im going to check that box out after i get it figured pout and installed.. I dont want to spend a few hundred dollars on this though, so i might just try to fix it if it is melted, rather than getting a whole other one.
