newer SR20DE than origional one

My husband gave me a 1991 sentra se-r and it has 230,000 mile oh her... it needs a transmission now and he found a SR20DE motor with a 5 speed transmission attached that came or comes from japan.... its suppose to have low mileage on it and all but as he looked at the new enging and transmission he sees it has a hydraulic cluth actuation he calls it... my 91 has a cable or machanical actuation clutch .... is it or will the new engine and transmission fit and work in my little 91 or will the clutch actuation being different, or cause us problems when we find some one to change out the engines.... my husband also said it looks newer model year than the SR20DE in it now because it has no coil wire on the distributor cap... I would appreciate any help you could give us on it ........julie annette murray

Sounds like an SR20DET, the turbo model motor (that's usually the difference between the two, non-turbo has a distributor, the turbo has coil on plug and no distributor).

The hydraulic clutch master and slave cylinders might pose a problem when doing the swap, but it is possible to do it, however I don't believe it's a direct swap as I'm not sure if the Sentra has mounting holes for the master cylinder.
Someone else would know more about that than I would, it's been about 10 years since I last touched a Sentra (and that was an 88 XE ).

if the transmission gave out, just get a new transmission from a 95-99 SR20.....don't bother swapping in a different motor, the one you have is fine
