I can't get my short shift on!!! 04 specv

I own a 04 specv. i just bought a short shift kit directly from nissan. It wouldn't fit correctly. So, i sent it back. I just got the new one today. Same problem. One of the pieces connects directly to the shifter post. So, there is a hole in the short shift piece for the shifter post to go through. Now, the instructions say to put the post through the hole over the small o-rings. 1st thing, there are not any o-rings. 2nd thing, The post is to big to fit through the hole without the o-rings. I do not know what to do. I have called Nissan and they assured me that this short shift kit is for my year and model. Not only did they assure me of this, but the instructions as well as the box say that is for my car. Does anybody have this shift kit that can help me out? Thanks.

its not even about getting the o-rings. Nissan said everything i need is in the box. I spoke to a service man who said he has no idea what the problem is. But, i brought it to the local speed shop and a mechanic said that my shifter post is an 8mm and the hole is 6mm so it wont work at all even without the orings. He also said that because my car was made 06/03, i should try the 03 kit. So Nissan is going to call me back on Mon. and tell me if the 2 parts are different sizes.

just letting everyone know... Nissan said that the 03 model shift kit has a bigger hole. So, they are going to send me the 03 kit. I tried the kit on my friends 02 just for kicks and it wouldn't fit in his either. Then they tried to make me pay for shipping back to nissan. I told them that their website listed it as an 04, my car is an 04 and it does not fit. So after arguing for a few minutes they budged and are going to pay for the ship, and i got them to send it 2 day air. so, i will let everyone ya'll know what happens with the 03 kit. Thanks for the suggestions and help.
