it could be rubbing against something. If you open up the gauge cluster, I'd wiggle it around a bit, but don't remove the needle.

is this really a tach display and not a surging idle issue??

Re: tach problem

I have open the instrument cluster and there seems to be no foul play, I dont know what to do next, it is not an RPM surge because I would hear it other than that the car runs beautifully

mine goes just past 8k...oh wait that's normal

Um, I don't think there's a spring in there that makes the needle return to 0, the speedometer has one, but not the tach. It's possible the little motor in there is shot b/c the needle can only fall backwards (toward the 9k) when there's not enough electromagnetic force to move it back down the RPM range.

I've been having the same problem with the tachometer as well. If anyone really does know of a fix, I'd like to know. Thanks. mk200sxser.
