sloggish

Need your help guys. First of, I have a 98 sentra SE (automatic), with hotshot headers and CAI and some magnaflow exhaust. Anyways my problem is that my car runs a little sluggish, it's like I have to constantly floor it in order to get anything out of it. A lot of time I have to run with the O/D off, and it runs great then. Now it is not always like this, some times it runs pretty descent but not always (I’ll say like 30-40% of the time only). I done tune up, I've change spark plugs twice in the last year (making sure I have the right one you know) and nothing. Some say it might be my CAT Converter (clog), others say I need a bigger alternator because I have a big system. What do you guys think? What’s the number one thing I should be looking at before I start wasting money in the wrong place? It's a shame 'cause I've driven this other sentra with the 1.6 and the gas pedal responded so, so, so much better than mine with all the mods. Mods that were supposed to make it better.
thanks again,
Vin

Hows your dist. cap and rotor? You said you did the plugs but did you do the full tune-up? Also, how bout your fuel filter and plug wires? Have you cleaned the throttle body and AICV? Check MAF sensor voltage? Vacuum leaks? Compression? There's a lot of things that could cause a car to run slow...

I hate to say it, but an auto GA16DE is still just that. Unless it's turbo'ed, it's gonna be on the slow side.

yeah man I've checked all that, plus full tune up and nothing, though I haven't clean the throttle body and AICV. thanks

Oh yeah, the 98 sentra SE has the SR20DE in it not the 1.6.

Question slug

OK, How many miles on it?
I have a manual so I'm not familiar with you're automatic but that could have something to do with it (they still have a clutch somewhere right?)
I think they call it a torque convertor? maybe that's just wearing and not up to par anymore.
I know the auto is slower. Is the other sentra you drove auto too?
Overdrive is for gas mileage/efficiency, not power or torque.
I more powerfull alternator is a good idea if your lights dim or tach needle jumps (or any other needle for that matter, i.e. speedometer, fuel etc..)
I would go for the de-carbonizer and FI cleaning (cleans injectors).
Throttle body cleaner (clean the TB and spray into manifold, just follow instructions)
I removed my sparks, sprayed TB cleaner/de-carb directly into chambers (through spark holes) and let sit overnight. (after re-installing plugs) And when you fire it up in the morning be sure to open it up to blow out the carbon, should be black sooty smoke cloud on first fire-up. Improved my engines bogginess from standing start and accelerates better too.
IF you run AC it saps power (word to the wise).

Adjust your timing to 19* while you're at it. Trust me, it helps alot on autos.

Thank you guys. I'll definitely try those things this weekend, that's if I still have the vehicle since I have a few potential buyers. Who knows, maybe I'll keep it after I try those things.
