iac valve

can anyone help me with a problem. i need to know what the iac valve does. and how it would act if there is a problem. thanks

idle air control valve, controls air intake to manifold when at idle and throttle body slammed shut, if you notice you can't idle right, or it kinda stumbles and hesitates, or it just dies after start-up and will only keep on with foot slightly on throttle, opening the throttle valve and letting air in, then this is the likely cause.......

Naturally aspirated autocross car.............naturally.
