FAQ? General Info?

I apologize in advance if this is a dumb newbie question or if I am too stupid to figure it out

I am trying to research inexpensive, or easily accomplished mods for my 200sx to help improve it a little. I am not ready to dump money into my car yet but I know every vehicle I have ever had there were cool tricks you could do that were free or easy modifications. For example, Jeeps have a necked down cone insert in the air tube that can easily be removed. Stuff like that. Is there a link or FAQ section with tricks and tips like that?

Thanks in advance and again sorry for the dumb question. I am learning fast on this car....just need a little guidance

You searched the FAQ....you don't mean the NissanForums.com FAQ section, do you? Maybe that is why you didn't see any results. Try this link...

http://www.nissanforums.com/search.php?

Type in "cheap mods", or "easy upgrades", or "cheap upgrades" in the Key Word field. I tried it with cheap mods and got some good threads. Example..

http://www.nissanforums.com/showthread.php?t=74218

Just make sure the thread you click on is specific to your vehicle, it will show up in the search results.

Off the top of my head I would suggest you replace the stock air box & filter and replace it with a cone filter. Same principle as the jeep mod you mentioned, to free up the air flow to the engine.

You can also advance the timing to free up horsepower, but you will have to use premium gas to avoid detonation.

Also check the slack on the accelerator cable. This won't increase hp, but if its really loose now you will notice a slight pick up in acceleration if you remove the excess slack.

All these topics have been covered before here, use the search engine to find out more about one particular mod.

That should keep you busy for awhile.

Awesome....thanks man. I know I need to search, but can I replace with a cone filter without doing a "cold air intake" kit? I did that on my cummins tow rig and it worked great. OK....off to reading

I'm a nerd, I forgot to refer you the Sentra.net site. That should be your next stop....Kojima's garage, engine section....go there now!!!! Lots of info!!!!

Yes you can replace the stock air box with a cone filter. You will need an adaptor plate. A CAI is much better. Sentra.net will explain why.....
