Gauge cluster removal

I can't seem to get the trim off on my 96 Sentra around the gauge cluster. Took the two top screws out but it's still held in the bottom by either screws or clamps. Do I need to take off more stuff to reach those screws or are they just clamps?

the black stuff?......with those 2 top screw it just pulls out, but there are 2 pressure clamps in the bottom meaning you just have to be careful and pull from the top

I carefully stuck a flathead screwdriver under the bottom and those clips popped out.

Just be careful with what you use. No more screw or bolts are holding the black trim in place. I did this the other day. I put my tilt steering wheel all the way to the bottom and pulled from that gap. It'll just pop out with those screws out of there.

After that on the gauge cluster you'll find 2 screws on top and 2 on either side. The 2 on the top I had to play with the angle to use my electric screw driver. I think I screwed with the screwdriver through the steering wheel since my electric is pretty long. After all 4 of those screws nothing is holding that in other than the wires that are attached. There's little insulation pieces behind the plastic trim and that area is pretty dusty so take a wet rag and clean it up, too.

just a tip. at home depot you can buy some allen head tips that instead of being pointy they are "rounded" on the tip that will let you use it at a slitght angle like those allen keys that look like a "ball" on the end it comes in heandy in tight places like that and its cheaper than a "snake" attachment

I got it done. Came right out after a few good tugs. Replaced my cluster and put the trim back on. I think I lost one of the clips on the way back in. Oh well.......who needs those things anyway.

YEa I cracked my clear plastic piece on my old guage cluster. I foudn it is easier to get that off if you take the black surrounding off of the guage cluster and then the clear plastic piece comes right off without any trouble.

Whoa...taking the plastic cover off while the trim is still on is....impossible!!! I cracked my glass before I changed my gauges into my reverse indiglo ones and that piece cost me 38 bucks. Let's just say that I handled the new piece like is was a time bomb or something...
