Question Performance Clutch

What's the deal with performance clutch kits? Are they real grabby and not as smooth as stock? If I wanted to get one what parts do I need-flywheel,etc.? What's the price difference between a sport kit and stock and where should I look?

Does anyone know a good install shop in San Diego? Thanks for the help :

well my friend had a stage 2 clutch on his integra and everytime he shifted the car did a burn out, even when we were driving softly through town. i guess it would be ok if u raced often (even though he didnt) but its terrible for town driving
of course u could always rig a head restraint to keep from riping your skull off your spine

Advanced Clutch Technologies.
If your car is a daily driver, and want great grab with little pedal hardness, the ACT clutches are great. DO a search here, a lot of great info on this site about this clutch set up.

NOT!
My ACT "stage1" had major pedal hardness! what are you kidding or what?
You must weigh over 180lbs man! How do you fit in the seat in this car anyway? It took my whole body weight almost to depress the damn thing and then it just wants to jump back out into gear...forget it, besides they only go for like 20k mi anyway then it's pony up for another clutch! You're freakin' nuts!
Unless you go over 8psi and turbo it you just don't need it!
And if you drive in stop and go you'll have to buy a new left knee joint as well, the damn thing wears out your knee better than anything else.
When you turn 50 tell the Orthopaedic Surgeon I said "hi" and be sure to thank ACT for your Total Knee Replacement!!! (that will be $50K please)

Well then you must only weigh a buck o 5, cause seriously the pedal in my 200 in not as hard as you explain. I also only have the A.C.T. pressure plate, and stock clutch disk. Ive also had the PP in the car for over 50k.
If you want to explain that the pedal is hard you could have done it in a nother way.
I really like my A.C.T. PP. I have also never tried the clutch masters, or the JWT. I was giving him information on what I have experiance on, unlike many of the other people just spewing hearsay all over the tech forum, right or wrong.

I would have to agree with the other guy. I was just at my friends house and amongst the many nissans of his he has a 93 Sentra E with a stage 1 ACT and he had me press in the clutch to see how stiff it was and even let me drive it a bit. It grabs really good but if you are looking for stock feel it's not close at all. The pedal was a lot stiffer than my Sentra SE with stock clutch. I'd stick with Steve(psulemon) and go with either JWT or Clutchmaster. I'm gonna be trying out the Centerforce Dual Friction within the next month or 2 but I wouldn't suggest it for daily driver until I find out what it's like considering the stage 1 and 2 centerforce clutches are know for overcentering. I'll be sure to let y'all know how it goes when I do get it though.

Mitch

its really whatever you are used to... if you think those are stiff you should try the one from my 79 trans Am.. you have to think that you are used to a light clutch that you barely hae to touch for it to go down... im not a big fan of ACT, thats why i suggested clutchmasters and JWT, but try others in different cars, even stock ones.. the more powerful the motor, the stiffer the clutch

no hd and pp clutch is goin to feel like stock, but some hold better and are easier to work with.. plus ACT have a tendency stretch the clutch cable, there have been a few members that this has occurred to, i believe the project 1.6t had this problem.. but when tested, the JWT clutch beats them all, it is a bit more expensive, but well worth it, Clutch masters came in second

Well, I have the clutchmasters and the pedal is really light. I'm not sure but I think the disc is stock and the pp is harder. It did stretch the cable, but it was a cheap ass cable from advance auto, so I can't really complain.
