Best place to find dash light power

Im installing an aftermarket tach. Yes i know how to install it, but what is the best/easiest place to get dash light switched power for the backlight on the tach? I dont feel like ripping my dash apart.......

i hooked mine to the driving lights so when i turn em on it gets power, your going to have to take apart the stuff under the steering wheel though, and get a wiring diagram so you know which are for the lights

nah. u want to hook them up to the dimmer switch....that way they work exactly as your dash lights...they dim with the lights and turn on/off whenever u turn on/off your headlights/parking lamps.

I have a picture of how to wire gauge illumination to the dimmer switch of your car.

Hey lew why don't you add hyperlinks to those pics on your web page to show the bigger versions?...people could see better detail then..espacially when looking at wires.

When I got my indiglo gauges there was something in the instructions about not plugging it into a dimmer because it would cause some problems. To get around this, I ran a line from one of the unused stereo leads. I grounded it to a bolt in the back of the cubby where the gauge cluster goes. You probably have regular gauges though... but I thought, what the heck.

only problem that would arise from this would be overloading the circuit and popping the 10a fuse for the meters....no biggie
