CAI and MAF question

I removed my CAI from my car so now the maf is bare except for the bronze colored screen. Is it safe to run it like that aslong as i dont get any water in it? Or should i put my stock stuff back in? I can feel power gains from it and it sounds alot meaner. But i dont wanna risk mesin the engine up. Any suggestions??

you need a filter on there, you don't want dirt in your engine. It can stick to the piston walls and scratch the sides of the cylinder.

taking off the piping and filter will not give you power gains and it is not the smartest of things to do... sound helps play a trick on the mind to let us believe we are gaining power.. but its not true cuz the cai will help you gain power.. not running it bare

Actually, you lose power by taking off the piping to the MAF even though it sounds awesome. With nothing on, the air flow inside the MAF is turbulent, and the MAF sensor gets erroneous air flow readings. This causes the ECU to set the engine operating conditions wrong. You would be much better off with the WAI (short tube with filter).

Why did you remove the CAI?

Put the filter back on... the screen is only for the last hope for your engine.

You're actually losing power. A WAI filter will expect a gain of 3-4hp, no filter at all would be no different than a low-restriction WAI, such as JWT. A CAI expects a gain of 8-9hp. Take away the CAI and you're left with a WAI, and you're runing your engine at the same time.
