Funny story. I actually went out and test drove a 2002 Subura WRX, got in my 96 Sentra XE to leave and nothing. All the electrically work came on and all that, even tried to jump the battery and nothing. The alternator is only months old. We pushed it and pop the clutch and got it running to get it home. The car started for about a week, just fine no problems. Then last night went to Walmart and got in the car to leave and nothing. No clicking, no turning, no engine sound whatsoever. Again pushed it and got it going. Took it home and turned the car off and then back on and it started. So I tried it one more time to turn it on and nothing again. Spark plugs are new. The distributor cap and wires are a little old but, I don't know if that would make the car not start. Battery is new also, plus tried to jump it and it still won't work.
Any help would be great. Thank you.

Sounds like the starter to me. You could take it off and take to a AutoZone and have them test it. Or you could try giving the starter a couple of good hits with a hammer while its still mounted on the vehicle and try to start it. If it starts up, time to get a new starter.....
I appreciate the quick answer. That is what I was guessing too, that it was the starter. Just wanted to get a couple more opinions. I have a quick question though. Where is the starter located on the 96 xe, I have the Haynes Repair Manual but the picture is a little sketchy, I can't make out where it is. And is it hard to get to?

Thanks again.
1.6 GA starter is easier to get to.
Open hood, Look past the distributer from the front under the Air intake just past the braket holding the clutch cable is the starter Assembly.
Have not changed mine yet so dont know how hard this is. Should be able to hit it though...
The SR20 is under the intake manifold and some what difficult is an understatement. There are not enough 4 letter words for me to describe this....
Good Luck ........
BTW I test drove a 2002 WRX too....but my Senta didnt die of shame on the spot like that LOL...
Brought the pathfinder....

at the cluch pedal u should have a switch that the pedal hits when engaged. un plug this switch and jump it with a paperclip. after that try starting it. MAKE SURE ITS NOT IN GEAR!! if runs u need a switch. if same problem, do u have head lights?? it could also be a bad connection at the battery.
