Question 1997 Sentra Question(not about chassis

HI, My hubby and I went to a car rental place and are financing a 1997 Nissan Sentra through them because we are not able to finance a low mileage or new car at this time. This car is in good shape, but I have a question. Is it normal for some cars to shift hard upon acceleration while changeing gears? It has an automatic transmission. When changing gears with the shifter there are no hard shifts. Just upon acceleration, it seems from going from 1st to second gear it upshifts sharply and quickly, maybe just powerfully. Perhaps, I am not used to that. Just curious. I found one piece of info somewhere that states that the nissan sentra with an auto tranny snaps some hard first into second shifts...so I was wondering if this was a normal problem or not.

Thanks

I have the 97 with auto also. It all depends on what you are comparing the shifts to. When shifting at high rpm's the shifts will seem pretty hard. If it begins shifting hard at low rpms that is when you have to worry. Check your tranny fluid to make sure that it is not a milky pink color(kinda like a strawberry milkshake which indicates water in fluid----very bad thing) and that you have the proper level of fluid. Provided that is good then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Also, I saw you posted this in another section. Just to warn ya, double posting will get ya flamed so don't be surprised if someone bitches at ya for double posting. And if ya have any other questions regarding the engine or tranny, the ga16 section would be best since the tranny is the same for all ga16de powered cars. Enjoy the forums.
