the weirdest thing happened to me last night... first of all, i have a 96 200SX SE... i had just got home from a trip to DC for the weekend.
as usual, i got out of the car and locked the doors with the power lock switch on the driver's side. then i shut the door. that's not the weird part... then i got out some bug/tar remover to clean up some shit that was deposited on the front end after the trip.
while i was cleaning up the front i heard a clicking noise as if the doors were just unlocked... i went to the driver's side door and tried to open it... and it opened!
what just happened? bad switch? loose connection?

That's happened to me a few times and bothered the hell out of me- until I realized that it was my own damn fault. As I was walking or bending down, I found that sometimes the "unlock" button on the keyless entry controller was pushed as it was in my pocket.
The "panic" button was also pushed at times, convenienty when I was right next to the car. Scared the hell out of me.
If you don't have keyless entry, and if it wasn't in your pocket at the time, I don't know what to tell you, other than check the yellow pages for local exorcists in your area...

it also happens if the switches on the driver's door get wet. corrosion on the terminals will cause the door locks to open and close randomly.

Hello. My name is Fujiki Nagasaki. I am an engineer for Nissans 200SX. Anyway, that's a little history. That thing that happened to you isn't unusual, it happens, particularly in the 96 model. So you are okay, it is not a ghost.

i already replaced the master switch on the driver's side. the car still unlocked itself... so it must be something else. any ideas anyone??

it happens to me when i have a window open while its raining, the buttons get wet and cause a short, thats why i always have my remote for my alarm with me when im out of the car even if the car is running.
hell its even worse when your car is like mine, after they got wet it all seemed ok for a couple of days. then one day i got in my car started it up and the windows decided to roll themselfs up and down! and then when i got where i needed to go the car wouldnt let me put my windows up!

i did not check the switch on the passenger's side... if that switch checks out OK what else could it be? How about a word from Mr 200SX engineer Fujiki Nagasaki??
and i don't think it could be an alarm switch because i don't have one right now...

ok ... not only do my locks unlock themselves randomly, but now the controls won't lock electronically, they only unlock. i just replaced the driver's side master switch, so i highly doubt that is it.... is there something other than the switches that it could be?
