Can't program replacement keys

I lost my keys and my keyless entry to my 98 200sx ser. I went to the dealer and had a replacement key cut for my car and had a new keyless entry remote sent to me. The new remote won't program to my car. I called the local Nissan dealer and talked to the service department. They said t get into the car, lock the doors, and put the key in and out of the ignition 10 to 15 times. They said that the four ways would flash and to hit the lock button on the remote as soon as this happened. The problem is that the hazard lights never flash when trying this. My dad noticed that the door chime dosnt go off and neither does the chime if you leave the headlights on. We dropped the cover off of the steering collum and checked the ignition wires. They are fine. We also checked all the fuses and they are all working. We called 2 other Nissan dealers (one in Kingston, one in Albany) and they can't figure out why the remote wont program. If anyone could help me out it would be appriciated.
-Peter

There is a few posts on how to do this somewhere on the forum. search to see if you can find it and see if the instructions you read from the thread are the same or different from what you were trying. I know it isn't much help right off hand but you might find that you are doing one of the things incorrectly or maybe given the wrog program info. Who knows, maybe the guy you talked to missed a step.

Good luck

I appriciate all the help.
As funny as it sounds, I got the remote to program on acdident today.
My car was locked and the windows were down, so instead of using the key to unlock the door, I reached in and unlocked the button, instantly setting the alarm off. I had tried previously to get the alarm to go off, but it wouldn't. I got the alarm to stop by using the key to lock and unlock the door. I then tried to program the remote and it worked. Kinda wierd, right? I literally tried to program the remote at least 20 times. It's working now, although the door chimes still don't work. Thanks again to everyone who posted.
