Interesting thing I found out about Sentra Exhausts!

In parts of PA we have visual emissions. Which means if your car rolled out of the factory with 2 catalytic converters, that means that at the time of inspection it has to have 2 catalytic converters. So if you put on an exhaust that eliminates 1 of your cats, it will not pass visual inspection.

.. hold that thought..

My friend has a 1998 Sentra GXE (1.6L). In 98 Nissan eliminated 1 of the 02 senors, and moved the cat up into the exhaust manifold. So in PA if he were to install a header, which would eliminate his cat, he would fail inspection in PA.

Well unfortunately, after my buddy bought his sentra, he backed into a curb, the curb was high enough it caught his exhaust and pushed it in, ripping a hole at the elbow of his exhaust. It was a nice sized hole and for a while sounded pretty bad.

He was looking online and found a catback exhaust, it was a Pacesetter. The website specified the exhaust would fit sentras 95-97, he has a 98. He bought the exhaust then told me about it. Said "its still a B14".. Well it is and it isn't, my 97 B14 exhaust setup is much different than his. He got it in the mail and tonight we made an attempt to install it. Well funny thing is, the midpipe was too short, it didn't reach far enough to the front of the car to connect. The gap look just big enough to fit an OEM nissan cat in there (this is because on the 95-97 B14's there IS a cat right there). Lucky for him, I still had my stock exhaust laying around and we used my oem cat to fill the void so his exhaust would work.

So now he has 2 cats instead of 1. This means in PA he can eliminate the cat in his exhaust manifold when buying a header and still pass emissions inspection (Because he still has a cat further down the line).

So in short, if you live in an area of PA where they enforce visual emissions and you have a 1998 Sentra GXE. Buy a 95-97 catback, add the addional cat infront of the new catback. then you can eliminate the other cat in the exhaust manifold and still pass emissions because you still have the 1 cat the car had originally.

I plan on getting pictures soon to show you guys, it sounds kind of crazy but i'm telling you it works.

Hope this isn't a repost, i searched to see if anyone else has posted about this, didn't come up with anything

I wasn't aware of 2 CAT's. I know there is a cat and a resonator, but they do 2 different jobs. If one is a resonator then you shouldn't ahve to worry about having one in.

i'm aware of that, he has 2 cats right now because basically he bought the wrong exhaust. he has a 98 and he bought a 95-97 exhaust. the 95-97 exhaust is too short to fit on the 98. this is because on the 95-97 there is a cat under the car (which would make up for the cat back being too short). What he is going to do is buy a 95-97 test pipe, and use it instead of a 2nd cat.

but i brought up the idea that if you ever install a header, instead of replacing the cat underneath, keep it that way you still have 1 cat when you eliminate the cat in the old exhaust manifold
