To plug a tire or not? I have seen a post on this before but it didnt really answer my question. So far two of my tires have been plugged and Im wondering how safe is it really? Some people tell me that I might as well just change the tires, but Im kind of lost myself. Any suggestions?
You plug it or you take it to a place to get the patch that goes from the inside?. I dont like plugs ive heard nasty stories about those things, in the highway at high speeds since they are a cheaper rubber then the tire the eat up quicker and re open the hole, also bad if your doing burn outs. i would get the patch from the inside of the tire. its only like 11 bucks at any tire place but its worth the money and the peace of mind.

At normal speeds a plug is fine, but be warned, the manufacturer's speed rating is no longer valid or honored (most manufacturers say this) and many suggest just replacing the tyre. If you drive mad fast, consider getting new tyres just for piece of mind or an internal patch.
I ended up with a nail in my Kuhmo 712s. I don't know how the hell it got in there so well, but it was perfectly face up, I didn't even know it was there until I was rotating the tires one day. Took it to a tire shop to replace the nail with a plug and I was driving on those tires ever since (up until the accident). and I've driven that car past 100 plenty of times.

well for now I wont be doing any heavy racing until my trans is changed..but after that I know I will change them just for a good piece of mind..

Yeah I guess its alright to drive on it for a while, not really much of a problem Id say to, but eventually you gotta change em' hehe.
a plug is supposed to be for a temporary fix, but if you don't plan on changing out the tires for a long time, i'd recommend patching it up, it's safer and better too. and like stated before, the speed rating is compromised, and some of safety too.
I had my driver's rear tire plugged after picking up a nail on the freeway. That was in December, and I've had no problems since. The tire still holds air just as well as it ever did, and I've had the car up to about 100MPH a couple times.

thats true..and since Im not planning on changing the tires for a lil while I guess thats the way to go..

cant debate with you on that Ive done almost 100 mph to without any problems (-knocks on wood-) and everything is fine but theres always the thought of the whole tire blowing in the back of my mind..dont ask.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. First of all, if it wasn't 100% safe, then no tire shop in their right mind would offer plugging as an option. When I took my flat to Discount (who I highly recommend, by the way), they didn't even ask me if I wanted it patched or plugged - for a puncture, plugging was the way to go.
Also, my car regularly goes through rougher driving than your car will ever see in its lifetime, and if a plugged tire can survive what I put my car through, it could certainly survive on the daily grind.

hehe your right..thanks for the reassuring words =)
It's all good. 3 of my tires are currently plugged and I've been above the 100mph mark with them, plus the typical potholes, dips, and the like. No problems here at all. Just don't expect to go all out racing or do crazy burnouts.
