Ok I was driving a 96 Sentra down the freeway and all the sudden, power loss. The car is still on, running and in gear but when I press on the gas it revs up and the speedo goes up very fast but i don't go anywhere. I get it back home (towed) and find that my passenger side axle has popped out of the tranny. I look at the end of the axle as I am trying to put it back in the transmission and it is smooth for about a quarter of an inch and it will not thread into the tranny. Other than that the axle is in perfect condition. I looked inside the transmission and i couldn't find any metal shavings and everything looked fine. Any suggestions on what to do? I would rather not take it to a shop if I don't have to.

if worst comes to worst, just buy a new axle and see if it happens again. tommorrow i am replacing the pass. side axle on my car, it only costs about 60 bucks for a new one, with a core return.
