Something is wrong

I started the car up and started to go down the road and when I got to the stop sign the car stalled. Now when I start it the rpms go up and down and it stalls. There is a little black smoke. It will run if I hold the gas down a little but as soon as I let off it stalls. It is a 95 Nissan Sentra GLE auto. Any ideas on what is going on? Thanks for any help. P.S. The car wa running fine all day.

I went to leave my house and made it to the stop sign and the the car stalled. Now when I start the car the rpms go up and down. I can keep it running if I give it gas but as soon as I let off the car stalls. It was running fine all day. Anyone have any ideas of what is going on? There is also a little bit of black smoke to. I know its not a new car I just hope it is nothing serious because I really cant afford to fix it right now. And James I am sorry for the attitude Im just really frustrated I all ready had 1 car that runs bad and now I have another.

I went back out and started the car and it was still trying to stall until I turned the air cond. on. Then the idle came up. As soon as I turned the air off the idle went down again and more smoke came out of the exaust. Why would the idle come up when I turn the air on? Please Help

The black smoke indicates the car is running very rich. When the A/C is turned on, the computer increases the idle speed to keep the engine from stalling due to the extra load of the compressor.

Has the check engine light come on?

No the check engine light hasnt come on, but I dont know if the light is working.

When you turn the key on, before you start the car, the check engine light should be on. It is a bulb check.
