Cool Thinking GTi-R SR20 swap.....emissions?

I was seriously thinking about turbo charging the stock SR20, but did some research and noticed that a JDM engine swap can be had for less, and get the same power. So, the one engine right now that sticks out the most as my favorite is the GTi-R SR20DET. My main question is, can these engines be made emissions legal? I live in Arizona, and they are pretty strict when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Also, is a swap like this kind of difficult to accomplish for a beginner home mechanic? Should I see if someone else in town can help?

Thanks!

i dont think you will have problems with emissions i think the big problem is to find a sr20det from a GTi-R

and yes you will need a good mechanic

umm, since the jdm motors dont come with any kind of emmisions equipment on them, i think you may have a little proble making them emission friendly here in the US

What if I put the emissions stuff from the SR20 that is in the car now, on the DET? Keep the CATs, etc. Will that work?

believe me, there will not be problems with emissions
any mechanic could solve the problem tunning the engine i have seen "almost race cars" passing emissions

the question is : do you have a sr20det from a GTi-R?????

No, don't have the engine yet, but know where to get one. They want $2400 for it. Anyways, I may have changed my mind. This application doesn't sound like a great package for a daily driver. May either tune the current SR20DE, or swap to a SR20VE at some point. Right now the car needs some things fixed before I start doing some heavy modding. (fix oil leak, replace 02 sensor, EGR valve, etc....)

Listen bro, don't let anyone tell you, ya can't do it. Everyone i know told me I couldn't swap the gti-r engine into my 200sx se-r. Now I just laught.
Anyway it's freaking hard. lol I never swapped an engine ever and started on this one. Figured if i'm gonna do it mine as well do it right! The gti-r engine is BADASS!! Just rough to put in and if u do you need things like new mount's jwt reprogramming blah blah. It will cost u but it'll be totally worth it. Just takes a little time and patience. If u wanna go for a fast but not difficult to install then go for ve. Pretty basic! Good luck

cuz then you dont have a street legal car... most jdm wont pass emissions, my ga16 with full exhaust intake had a hard time passing emissions, but i got it after the egr valve.. but if someone has a gti-r and passes emissions, then i would believe that person.. i dont have the swap..
