Gauge Problem

I have a probelm with my battery and brake light coming on at the same time. There are no patterns for it happening, one time you can run all day without them coming on, but the next they may come on and go off, or just stay on. The brakes were changed about 6 months ago with the battery and just started having the problem. Its a Nissan Sentra 1996, I believe 1.6. I welcome all help.

Thanks

One other thing... while you're at it, you may want to have someone look at the idler pulley. Mine was bad since day one off the dealer lot and I've had a few friends with the 200SX have the same problem. I figure it's a common thing that people never really worry about till it seizes and causes your belts to break.

did it make some kind of the noise when it was about to go?
Cause i get this weird.. whining noise and im guessing that the bearings in the alternator are going. Im putting a alternator today, i hope the noise will stop because its very very loud right now, sounds like there is something bad with my engine.
