Crap, I need a new axle, think Nissan will do it for free?
About 6 months ago, I noticed I was getting a ton of grease splattering inside my driver's wheel. I knew right away it was my CV boot leaking. I procrastonated until about 2 months ago to get it fixed.
Around end of November-December, I was home and my mom needed to bring her car in to get a new AC line. I decided we'd bring both cars in, so I can get my tranny fluid "power" flushed and get the boot fixed.
I told the guy to check out the tranny and axle b/c the tranny was acting up and that's where they were working anyway. After they were done, the guy told me, they flushed the tranny (they did it a second time for free b/c it really needed it), he also told me the Tranny was in good condition, and the motor mounts were in good condition. As for the CV boot, they replaced/resealed the boot, and repacked the grease. He Asured me that there was no damage to the axle and it would run fine.
Tonight, I jus pulled in from a 125mi drive, everything fine, I pull into my parking space and I crank the wheel all the way to the right. I hear POP, POP, POP, POP, going in sync with the wheel turning. It was on the driver's side, which is where the boot was bad, and it was so loud, I could feel the popping with my hand on the wheel. I know it can be nothing but the CV joint.
Now, I definately need a new axle, but should I pay???? Nissan JUST repaired the boot and told me the axle was just fine. The face they repaired the boot w/o bothering with the axle is proof enough as it is. Is it possible they will do it for me for free? I need to go hunt for the bill and call them up tomorrow, but what a load of shit for me to have to fuck with right now. I already have a $3000++ repair bill to go through with the body work and paint from my recent accident.
