My rear axle is FUNKED up!

So, I went to get some new tires today, due to the unexplained rapid tread loss on my back tires...so when they have the car in the air, I notice my rear axle...I dunno if the bar itself is supposed to be slightly bent for the extra toe our cars are supposed to have or whatever, but the bar itself is VERY bent, upwards and back, and the beam that covers the pole itself is bad too, it looks like someone beat it up with a sleadge hammer...when I got home today I noticed my back left tire has slight posotive camber, and my back right tire has negative camber and it looks liek its turning right...man its bad. Anyways im looking for another axle assembly somewhere so my friends and i can replace it. I drive a long ways to work and I dont want to be replacing tires every month.

Anybody know where I can get one for a good price, maybe remanufactured or something?

Thanx.

you better hitup a junkyard man and make sure its from a car that got hit in the front not the rear:P...hell if you got drum brakes might as well score an SER rear axle and get some discs!

The junk yard at the end of my street has a wrecked 96 sentra, and they said they'd sell me the axle assy. for $150. Sound good? Are there any tricks or shit to putting it on? looks like a couple bolts and the drums to take off. I have 2 friedns that work at mechanic places and I know a good bit too. So hows that sound?

thanx.

Ok well, I went and got it, they said it would be an hour before they have it off so i'm goin back in an hour. Hopefully it will be perfectly straight and everything, and now just one more problem. Carrying a full single beam axle home in my little 200sx...

i bought mine from the yard for 146, but with them pulling it out for you, that's a good deal, so now i have a rear axle with drums sitting at home.

what you can do is take your passenger seat and rear seats out....unless yours fold down...and just have them help you put it in the car carefully...ide take some big trash bags with you just so you wont have any grease or fluids getting all over the place

I just managed to stick a whole axle with drums, and with shox and springs and all into my lil trunk. It was hanging half way out but I had it tied down pretty good. Its sitting in my driveway now...hopefully I'll get it in by monday...dont wanna drive to much on that bent one anymore.

well, got up this morning and I shoved that axle in my moms trunk (she has a buick with a BIG trunk, then I drove it to my friend brents garage, it closes and its heated so it was a must, then I drove back home and got my 200 and brought it back to the garrage, it only took me and brent and brad about 2 hours to do everything, we broke 2 socket wrenches trying to get the 2 pivot joints from the arms that connected the axle to the bottom middle of the car on both sides, but then we ran to brents job (tires plus) and borrowed this monster ass wrench, and we got some rust penitrant and brake cleaner, and the drums on the new axle were in alot better shape than my old ones, so i kept them on but I opened them up and cleaned them really good. Overall it was easy, the hardest part was taking the heat shields off to get the e-brake cables off so i can put the new ones on, it was just because the bolts on the heat shield were akward and hard to get to. That and of course those two bolts. My car drives alot smoother now and im sure my tires will get ALOT more life.

Just letting everyone know how it went.
