Need some exhaust help please.

Ok, I know this has been brought up before, but I've searched and I cant find any spesifics on what im looking for so...here is the story. I have a custom 2 inch mandrel bend pipe from my catback on my 1.6 200sx, I also have a really shitty fart can on it, I hate the way it sounds and im not too fond of the look either. I've been looking for a quieter muffler that looks stock, or near stock but still doesnt create alot of back pressure. I've looked mainly at 2 mufflers. First is the Magnaflow oval canister, but i've heard that those are loud as well. Second is the Remus dual tip muffler, that seems like the best bet but I really dont have $400 to shell out right now. So could someone please recomend me a quiet muffler within a decent price range. I don't need a full cat-back because I've allready had the piping done, I'm just looking for the muffler itself, something within the 100-250 dollar price range.

Sorry if im bringing 100 posts back from the dead, but I just couldnt find any of the specifics im looking for.

Thanx.

i'd say just look for a non-baffled, non-torpedo performance/turbo style muffler.. i know JC whitney has a 'turbo style' muffler, for fairly cheap, but i'm not sure if it's baffled or what... i think it might be chambered

Hey man, first of all the 2inch pipe selection is perfect for your motor, the 2.25 that i have is a big help, but doesnt really kick in till around 3500 rpms so i've lost some bottom end. Next is you want a muffler with alot of back pressure? I'll just tell you upfront before everyone else gives you a hard time, back pressure is the enemy. You dont want very much back pressure at all, and you shouldnt have very much with the type of exhaust unless you go with a glasspack(cheapo) muffler or something of that type. As for your other question, I have a magnaflow oval muffler model number 14832 street series. Its not very loud at all,(wont give you a headache from inside the car) sounds nice and sporty and if you look around you can find one for around 100 dollars, and it definently sounds better than the other brands (APC, NOPI, JC Whitney) that are around the same price range. I wasnt being a smartass about the backpressure thing, just letting ya know, before everyone else gives ya a hard time. If you have any more questions, catch me on AOL messenger Screen name( BRN2thug )

well, what's your exhaust setup?? if you have a header, that may cause that annoying noise you so describe. Mine for instance is consisting of Hotshot header, cat after collector, cherrybomb glasspack, then to a muffler, very nice and quiet and not annoying.

Sorry man u must have missunderstood, I know backpressure is the enemy, maybe the missunderstanding came from me not using the apostrophie in "Doesnt" haha, guess those 12 years of school and 6 months of college didn't pay off after all... I know all about backpressure tho...oh the problems i had with my ricey ass exhaust on my G20...poor EGR systems ... but anyways man, I'll hit you up on AOL tommorow if your on after I get off of work. Thanks for the help.

Go with the Maxspeed 2.5" straight through muffler. I had that for a couple of years before I turboed my car and went with an Apex'i N1 muffler. The Maxspeed has a great deep tone thats not too loud.
