air temp sensor

What would happen if you could 'trick' your air temp sensor in your intake into thinking it is colder outside than it really is....

I know engine's generally run 'faster' in the winter ... is it just because of colder air, or does this have to do with anything.

While messing with my battery I pulled off the air ductwork that goes from the bottom of my airbox down into the fender and such... so basically I am pulling air right into the bottom of the airbox (still getting filtered...) will this hurt anything? It sounds cool as hell... will cai or wai be louder?

I have a 98 200sx 1.6l

No, it wont hurt anything..it will be pulling hot engine air in though. A cold air is a little louder and deeper growl, cuz it is outside of the engine bay, in the fender....
