ok, how do i get the shift knob off?? ive had every one who thinks they are strong try to turn it off, or pull it off. no one can do it, and i dont know how to find out how the thing comes off.. i got a neon shift knob i want to put on, and i could really use some advice on getting the stock one off... thanks.
once you twist the stock shift knob off, is there threads on it, or what? cause if i twist that one off, and there isnt threads or any way to get this neon one on, i dont wanna shift with a little metal stick tonight... thanks for the info. plz let me know on this, thanks.
i got it off, it wasnt as bad as i thought it would be, but wow the other shift know i was going to put on is a pice of shit, its like 4 inches taller than the other one, even though the actualy knob is the same size, the threading doesnt go as deep, and it looks DUMB. so i took it back off and put the old one back on. good thing i didnt mutalate it to bad. =P
well, eve though you're finished, i'd like to add my story for any that find this thread later on.
i wanted to put a super ricey walmart shiftknob on. i ended up cutting the stock one off, only to find out that it would've come off with a visegrips in the end. (note to others, put cloth around it and you won't mess it up. YOU MAY WANT TO USE IT AGAIN.
after that, the neon one was ick so i got my money back. i later bought an obx leather knob that held on with three allen screws. sure enough it vibrated loose and then i couldn't get it off because there was a little metal cover thing that screwed over the allen screws and the three screws were now sticking out enough that it wasn't coming undone. (hard to understand, sorry)
i finally found a cool shiftknob that the guy thought would screw onto the nissan threading. NOPE, i finally cut the stick 3 inches and just rethreaded it, and now im happy. note to others now that i think about it, vise grips are gonna rip through that cloth and still scuff your stock knob. try wrapping a towel around it with a large, strong screwdriver or something bigger even sticking down and twist the screwdriver getting the towel super tight around the knob the push. that, too is hard to explain, but its actually easy concept. screwdriver probably won't be big enough but i can't think of anything else right now. oh, how bout a big ass wrench. yeah, that should work.
I believe a B&M short shifter would be the answer.....to all your problems ....excellent build quality and well worth the money, plus they include a cool shift knob with the short shifter. Now you cant go wrong with that IMO.....
