97 sentra xe for $5800

At the local dealer they have a sentra, I believe XE based on the options listed, with 59,000 miles. Is this a good price? I had a carfax report run on it and it came out clean. What would I be able to get this car for? Thanks guys.

It's within retail value if the car is in great condition. Go to kbb.com to get a good estimate of the retail value. I got my '97 GXE about a year ago from a dealer and it was originally priced at $6000 with 70k miles on it. I got the dealer to drop the price to $4500. I wouldn't have given more than $5000 for it and it's a GXE model. I'd advise you to look for a private seller and skip the dealership's marked-up price. Don't forget to consider the "fees" dealers tack onto the price after it's sold.

I wouldn't pay more than 3500-4000 for it.

I paid $3000 for my 98 Sentra base model with 50,000 , but I had some door damage on mine. The car's value was based on dealer trade in rather rather then private sale trade. As in why bother selling the car to a dealer for $3000 when you can get someone else to buy it for more.

This is just to give you some idea what others are paying.

Nada guides (www.nadaguides.com) says average retail is $4,625. It also says a $600 bonus for the low milage. This is just an average price and doesn't take into account condition.

Personaly I'm a private party person. While dealers can be helpful, private parties are far more likely to have accurate information as to repairs and maintance.
