How do you remove the GC collar from the silicon?!?
Im replacing the rear strut and i need help removing the GC collar from the silicon sealer on the old strut. ANyone do this before??? A quick answer would be greatly appreciated!!
Well 1st, if you can get something inbetween the sleeve/collar and the strut body, do that. Try to beak it up as much as possible. Then just grab the collar and twist.

98sr20ve's idea should work, but you may need to add one of my favorite tools, the "swear and tear"
Thats the truth NOW. It wasn't much of a option 1 year ago.
My idea does work. Used it on several occasions. In fact in my opinion if you didn't use a rubber mallet to put them on then you didn't do it right because they will still be loose and more prone to rattle.
98sr20ve, I hope I was clear that I was just joking with that comment and Im not bein a snob becasue of what I got. I remember what it was like to not have any options. My apologies for bein a slut. Guess I dont make a good one.

I got it off with 98sr20ve's suggestion. One more question though.
When i put the collar onto the new strut i didnt use much silicone. Now after driving it once, i can move it up and down. Is it important that i fix this or will it be fine like it is?

One more wrap of duct tape and then tap it on with the mallet. You may need to take off a layer to get down to clean duct tape. Just get more on to make it tighter. I have one strut that seems to get a little loose like that also. I have chosen to ignore it. Wish I had Pat's setup.
Steve, Do you really think what I have is better than what you have? In respect to making the car handle better, not talking about what a PITA the sleeve set-up can be some times, or current spring rates. More like in terms of potential. Im just curious and I really dont have the knowlage of the options for the B14.

Well a spring is pretty much a spring so the only thing to judge is the dampner. I would guess your Tein's are a better then the basic Koni's that I have. They are externally adjustable. I don't think they are at the level of the Koni 8611 racing struts that people pay 2K for as a package. But they should be better then my 130 dollar a piece Koni inserts.
