strange noise

Ok. My car has made this noise twice today. Imagine taking a spring, compressing it, then letting it go. BOING. This leads me to think it is something to do with my suspension. A friend of my suggested the strut mounts. anyone have any thoughts as to what this might be?

How hard is it to replace the strut mounts? Or should I have it professionally done? How much can I expect to spend replacing them?

TIA!

Is this noise emanating from front or rear? Over bumps? On turns?

It's coming from the front passenger side. So far it has only made the noise when I am backing into a parking space with the wheel turned to the right.

oops i just saw that its coming from the passenger side. my initial theory was that the intake filter was rubbing.

i have the same noise!, i can duplicate the noise when i'm sitting still, and i turn my wheel the whole way to the right then the whole way to the left, try it and see if you get the same noise. if you do its your struts

have either of you had your suspension apart lately? there is a bearing between the strut mount and mount plate. i know when i was putting my suspension on a couple years ago i forgot to put this back on and it made the sound you are talking about. other than that its the only thing that i can think of that would keep the suspension assembly from turning with the wheel. its a PITA to get to the bearing but im not sure if that is your problem.... is it?

i know what you're talking about, i had a friend look at my passenger front shock when i was turning my wheel, and he told me that my suspension was turning with my wheel, and it would turn so far then snap the rest of the way then make that noise, so its a bearing huh? we thought that maybe it was just the bushing that is in the mounts of the shock that was totally eaten away allowing the shock to turn.. hmm thanks

I haven't had my suspension apart since I bought it almost two years ago. Before that I don't know if they did or not.

I really need to decide if I am going to keep this car or not. I'm leaning towards selling her and getting a 240SX (SR20DET swap). But that is a whole other story. If I decide to keep this car, I'll redo the whole suspension. But it'll take a while to save up for that. I want a nice coilover. One that doesn't make any noise. *sigh* I hate being broke.
