ARGH! Glowgauges installed

I got some indiglow overlays for my guages. I spliced them into the "parking light" out. It's a Red/blue wire coming from the combo switch. I was hoping I could do a pass-through and have simple splices but now the guages work fine and none of the parking lights work. So obviously I have to redo the wiring. My question is, is the chassis on the car a good ground source?

The chasis of the car is the best place you could use as a ground.

If you would have tested the current coming out of the combo, there is not enough juice. Don't know why and neither did Nissan when I asked them. I tapped the reastat (dimmer switch) and it was quite easy. Nissan recommended a larger fuse because of the electrical draw. Didn't do it and have not had any prob's.
