shorted alt. == no tach?? >>

Okay.. while re-installing my stock headers, a wrench shorted something on my alt with the headers resulting in a spark.

I continued on my work expecting to replace a fuse... but now my tach doesn't work. fuel works, haven't checked speedo or temp gauge.

There are only two fuse boxes, correct? I checked the fuses on the underside left of the dash, and beside the battery, with an ohm-meter and everything looked fine.

OK...I need you to check every single freaking fuse in the car man!
You say you blew up the alternator fuse right? The 75amp one?

I need to know exactly what you did that day.

Anyways...you claim to have shorted out the alternator. WOW!

First off...you can't really short out the alternator if you don't have the car on! So I'm wondering now...you were replacing the headers with the car on?

Check all the wires in your car man! I think you probably fried one of them! Ah...Check the battery wire man! I think that could be it! If you claim nothing is working. then its most likely that.

dude it was the 75amp fuse. I replaced it and all is good..

yeah I was an idiot for not unhooking the battery.. and no the car wasn't on..

lesson learned..

It was a funky square looking fuse that did NOT looked burned at all. $13 freaking dollars

I've done this many times, shorting out the fuse that is. I bet the car didn't even start. If it did you were lucky, and you just knocked of some other main fuse. If you have this habit like me, gank or buy the fuses from the junkyard.
