Post so im thinking of getting 17's...

I'm thinking of getting 17's for my '96 sentra. I will get them with tire size 205/40/17. I know it will slow my car down quite a bit but my main concern is will it also affect my gas meilage? I dont mind the gas meilage to suffer a bit but i dont want it to be rediculous.

actually it really wont effect either. on a dyno bigger wheels have only cost about 3-4 hp on a 200. they wont effect your gas milage either.now if you have some 20's or larger it probably would effect gas milage just simply bc the wheels are larger and turn slower than the stock ones which would show you less miles per tank on the odometer even though nothing had changed.

Welcome to the boards, man! I agree with what katana said.... but hasnt this topic (i.e 17s/rims and their effect) been beaten to death yet?

Wheelguyz.com has an American Eagle 17" six spoke wheel with 205 40 17 Nankang NS1 tires for $589, shipping included.

Thinking hard about it. Had another dealer tell me that Nankang used to make tires for Kumho. Don't know if that's true or not.

is Nankang a known brand or an off brand? Anyone know if they are any good?

I guess Nankang would have to an "off" brand. I did have a very reputable local dealer quote me on a set with wheels though.

Treadwear rating on the NS1 is 340 I believe. Not too bad if it's believable. Tractions were all A's.

Well, Its not really the size that slows your car down that much, I believe its the weight. I just put on 18's and the bastards are heavy, my car is now officially slower then crap, cant wait to put my header and exhaust to get it running faster again, hehe.

Got the wheel/tire combos in today (well, 3 of them, thank to FEDEX for losing one of the boxes.) Checked the weight of the American Eagle wheels w/Nankang ns1's, they are 2 lbs heavier per wheel than the stock wheel/tire combo.

These are a birthday gift for my son. Was off today, so I took 2 of them and mounted on front, took the car out, and they ran nice and smoooth, at least as far as I took it to (75 mph). Took them back off, wiped them down, and boxed them back up. A little bit of a "make work" project, but worth it IMHO.

Hopefully FEDEX can get their act together before his birthday in May.

remember people.. it's not the static weight that matters.. it's.. you guessed it.. rotational mass

As far as I know, nobody ever said that the size was the problem.... weight has always been the issue....
