In goes a SR20DET

In the next month or so, my car is going into the shop. I'm getting the SR20DET Gti-R dropped in. Parts are on order right now, should take 3-4 weeks to get in. I'll get you guys posted on how things go.

hey..
wasssup..I'm saving up for the SR20DET also...I own a '99 Sentra. I'm still deciding on which motor to get the Bluebird or GTR-i. Tell how your swap went & if there were any major complications.
-thanks

i got the motor for about 1,900. and its the GTi-R. the all wheel drive, and im not gonna be using all wheels. so go with the blue bird if u wanna stick to front wheel. u got a lot to consider when dropping that motor. intercooler, axles, hubs, brake upgrade, new clutch (that would be good for more psi), odds and ends, etc. its a motor from Japan, so not everything is going to be easy.. all together, im looking at around 7,500 for the drop. including parts, and odds and ends. he's a guy that i know and trust.

This is exactly the kind of post that confuses newbies. From what I've read, you need an SR20DE transmission/axles regardless of whether a BB or GTi-R is being dropped in. ALL Bluebird/GTi-R motors are AWD. *Unless* themudboy's car is AWD, the above statement makes no sense to me.

This is not intended to be a flame or direct aggression towards themudboy, but based on everyone's typical "Use the SEARCH button" response, I have to say that this is kind of stuff that gets me torqued. I won't complain about the validity or accuracy of the information here, but its the mixed answers and contradicting statements that tempt me to start yet another thread on this whole DET swap. If at least all of the answers were similar or in agreement I could at least of something more solid to go by.

If only I could find a good source of swap information... <sigh>

You do have a good point, because I'm not even too sure what is what from what people keep telling me. I have heard about Bluebirds being front wheel drive. I dont know, maybe I heard wrong. But the tranny that came with my motor was all wheel. And in the first place, I ordered the Bluebird which would of came with the front wheel, thats what was said. And to do the swap, you will need SR20DE parts. I got the SR20DE tranny, ecu, wiring harness, hubs, brake's, and axels.

I suppose you are piecing together the swap? It sounds like you are.

I intend to buy an entire BB front clip. Even having mentioned this, people still tell me I need an SR20DE JWT reprogrammed ECU (which I believe is false - DET ECU + SAFC should suffice), SR20DE harness (WTF, the DET harness won't work? - BS!). I understand about the tranny and axles, but otherwise no one seems to have any clear answers.

Hell, I should start telling other newbies to use the SEARCH button then flame them for complaining that they can't find any info. Right about now I would love for someone to prove me wrong. Then I'd be humbled.

Mudboy, best of luck to you with the swap. Please post pics, info, or anything you can relay from your experience. Thanks...

Im not going against what you are saying. But are you saying that using the ecu and harness from the SR20DE won't work? Even when re-programed? B\c I wouldn't know why my mechanic would send that out if it didn't work, he's done other swaps before.
