Hey mudboy. I wouldn't be going against anything you're saying either. It just seems we're both either misinformed or given incorrect information. I don't mind debating, I just wish we could get clear answers. I'm trying to learn this for myself, so don't quote me on this.

To answer your question, YES, a reprogrammed SR20DE ECU will work. From what I've read on this forum and SR20DEforum, an UNprogrammed SR20DE ECU will work, BUT will give you poor performance and due to an incorrect air/fuel mixture required for the DET. I've read that running on an unprogrammed SR20DE ECU is used as a temporary crutch to get the car moving. The alternative is to use an S-AFC to manually program the fuel map or points of correct A/F mixture at certain RPMs. By having the SR20DE ECU reprogrammed by JWT (or elsewhere), the guesswork and dyno tuning is taken out of the hands of the S-AFC programmer and therefor will run correctly with the DET.

As for the harness, I am personally seeking to purchase a Bluebird front clip and utilize the provided harness. The only reason I have read that would not allow for you to use the SR20DE harness is because of differences in sensors and/or the transmission. (Ok, I'm talkin' way outta my ass here so take it for what its worth. I'd even settle for some expert to school me right about now.) It would make sense to me that with some minor modification, the SR20DE harness would work.

I think you are on the right track as far as the swap goes. We're kind of in the same boat but not really. I'm looking for DET CLIP -> GA16DE swap whereas I think you are piecing your swap together.

Your right, we are on the same boat. Everything is confusing when doing a swap. If you allready havent, check out this sight. www.srswap.com From there is tells you what you need for the Bluebird and GTi-R to make the swap successful. I should of baught a front clip instead of going piece by piece, but oh well, to late now.

I just found the answer to confirm your question regarding using the reprogrammed SR20DE ECU.

Member quote from SR20DE in regards to GA->DET swap: "I would go with the sr20de JWT ecu and sr20de wiring harness."

You can read more here:

I have no problem helping someone find info. Mudboy, if you see me post a question elsewhere that I could not find the answer to, yet you come across, please direct me to the source. Thanks!

the only real difference in the two is the horsepower, the GTiR is a little stronger, about 20+ hp stronger. they both were built with AWD trannys thats why people are swapping them into FWD cars, typically they do not include the AWD transmission so its really nothing to worry about. you chose the wrong way to go by piecing it together, not is it expensive but its a task to find pieces. as for the harness its probably best to get an un cut harness from a 240sx with an SR20DET. check out http://www.afterdark-tuning.com ive talken to him alot about this swap for my 98 sentra he says its a direct swap and he could perform it for less than 4000 including the installation, and it would start up without any other pieces other than what came with the package for 4000
