My 1996 200sx is having trouble starting up. It is off and on. When my car has been sitting a while(overnight at longest) it has trouble starting up. The engine turns over really slow. But after I have been driving around awhile and get into my car again it will start up fine. I tested the battery by itself and while the car was on. When the car was running the charge was steady at 13.9, but when I kept turning the car on and off the battery charge dropped steadily but didn't go under 12. I am pretty sure the battery is the problem but I am not sure. When the car is running it all seems to work fine which makes me think the problem is not the altinator. Any suggestion will help.

i'm betting its the battery not holding the charge have you checked it first thing in the morning?

I'd agree, when testing the battery it's best to remove the positive/negative cables from the battery to test it while it's running, otherwise you're really checking the voltage of the generator (which is charging your battery when the engines turning). Sounds like your battery is about to die.
