Newb needs help with clutch.

Hi, I'm new here and had a question about my car. It's a 95' 200sx with 180k miles.

I went to start it this morning, pushed in the clutch, it popped and went straight to the floor. I figured i was just the cable.

Upon further inspection I found the the cable had come loose from the lever that goes into the trans-axle.

How much travel should that lever have? It seems like I can only turn it by hand maybe a 1/4" To me it seems like it might be jammed up and that it caused the cable to snap?

Think my clutch is hosed?

Any help or advice would be great.

You likely have a broken clutch cable. Get a new one from Nissan; avoid the aftermarket.

I am 100% positive the cable is broken.

The question I am asking is how much play should be in the release lever on the transaxle?

There doesn't seem to be much play in mine which makes me thing something is jammed internally that caused the cable to break.

There should be a little bit, but not much. Usually what happens is over time, the steel cable wears through the plastic liner inside the cable housing, which then puts it in contact with the steel tube of the cable house. The metal to metal contact causes the steel cable to shred and eventually jam or bind inside the cable.
