1998 200SX SER Horn / cruise

This afternoon the horn stuck on while driving. I stopped and before I could get the relay for the horn under the hood removed it stopped blaring. I got back in and decided to try the horn and see if it would work or not and it stuck again. Before I could get the relay out the horn was smelling burnt and a bit of smoke was coming out of it. I finally got the relay removed. While driving back home I went to set the Cruise and now it will not set, you can turn it on at the dash but none of the buttons on the steering wheel will work. Do the horn and cruise circuit work together? I am guessing the real problem with the horn may be in the steering wheel and it shorted out the Cruise controls? Any help as to where to start trouble shooting would be greatly appreciated.

If you figure it out let me know.....my horn started that behavior at about 400K and my solution was to just disconnect.

I ended up taking it to my Mechanic as I don’t have the tools to pull the steering wheel. The problem ended up being the wiring through the spiral cable/clock spring in the steering column. This part is longer available for purchase through Nissan. He ended up using some plastic to insulate the worn wires from ground and the horn and Cruise control both work again without any other additional parts. My first 200.00 ziplock bag installation!

I gotta chuckle/laugh...

But, I can think of a few other things that'll make a ziplock worth more than $200

NISSAN GOOGLE

Is it just me, or does the majority overlook the obvious?

Somebody ate a whole bag of dumbass for breakfast.

Why do people continue to run a vehicle when a warning light comes on or starts flashing? Isn't that a clue that something is wrong and you probably should NOT drive it?
Is this whole car driving thing really freekin' brain surgery?

Here's something new for the crowd/clowns...
"A little bit of Google goes a long way!"

Ever notice the one post wonders for info on turbo'ing a GA16 are never heard from again after they figure out the cost???

And if you can read this, you don't need glasses! :)

I'm showing the clockspring (aka spiral cable) as still being available from Nissan. Part #25554-9B925, MSRP $316.92, available from 1stAAANissanParts.com for $228.18.

I may have this part available as I'm stripping down my SE-R. If interested let me know and we'll figure it out. Would be way less than the $300 Nissan wants.
