engine swapping

I dont a terrible lot about engine swapping, and how easily engines can be swapped, in regards to size and weight, concerns about mounting and so on.What sort of things are possible with the 200sx. This is a 200sx base model, (still a B14 chassis, I believe) with the GA16DE Engine. Can it be switched with its SE-R model SR20? How about large american V8 engines from chevys or fords, with what modifications, or new transmission could allow a lot larger engines to be swapped with this somewhat small (only a 4cyl) GA16. I've read about mods to the GA16, but I'm only really interested in swapping with a much more powerful engine, in regards to this post. Any one have any experience or guesses as to the plausability of such a switch?

more thoughts...

you can buy chevy or ford performance engines 300, 400 hp for maybe 2-3000 dollars, as much as you'd pay for something a lot weaker on the japanese market, even in terms of used or remanufactured stuff

I know you probably would get more power from a V8 chevy or ford but why would you do that in a NISSAN?? An SR20 only kicks out 25 more HP stock. Its not worth it unless you do the SR20DET. There are other engines out there but im not too concerned with them as I want to fix up my lil GA

it would be more experimental, just to see if could be done. Like William Harrah, owns the casino and the automobile museum in Reno made a 1977 Jeep Wagoneer powered by a Ferrari 365 GTC/4 V-12 because he lived in the country but wanted to be able to go fast on the highway. It was called the Jerrari I think.

I dont really think that heavy v8 would work in the Nissan, it would just be too much weight in the front. And ive been told that it is way too much money to put a sr20 into the SE (custom stuff). It would just be easier to buy the se-r.

when worlds collide

heavy, more powerful american engines -- even the maxima's engine -- would make the sentra handle like a brick.

60/40 weight ratio? sure... weight transfer? please... have fun!!

honestly, i can't see it working, but on a side note, i've seen a few early model z cars (1972s) refitted with chevy small blocks. those are pretty damn tight. they make ungodly amounts of horsepower (way more than 400 hp) and look pretty sharp, too.

it's sorta like an east meets west thing. the guys who have 'em that i've talked to get mad props from the good ol'boys and the import guys. i'd like to try my hand at such a project one day...

What you all are not looking at is how freaking expensive this would be.

To start out with, 200sx are front wheel drive cars. MOST (note that I said MOST) v8's are rear wheel drive. This is an entirely different setup. You would have to make your 200sx rear wheel drive, and create a driveshaft and everything..... It would just be sooo much money to spend.

I read somewhere about something who did scca and used some markham body or something and put in a ga16 engine into it, and mated it with some transmission from a truck or something...... effectively creating rear wheel drive out of the nissan engine.

To make matters short, what's the point? After your done the ONLY thing nissan would be the body and interior....

dumb
