Shifter Fence

I was wondering if it was at all possible or pratical to fence or gate the shifter on a 99 Sentra se. I was just curious because i like the look of gates but i wasnt sure if it would work. Thanks for the help.

My guess is probably no.I have a Gated factory shifter on my AMC Spirit GT,and it moves from side to side via a spring loaded mechanism. The B14 auto shifter is only designed to move in a straight line, and cannot yaw from side to side.

unless he has a manual..

It looks possible... As long as your linkages and everything are nice and tight (as time goes on your shifter will feel "floaty" and you kind of have to "find" the gear... a gate wouldn't work like that)

If you find one, let us know. I would buy one. Those look great! A friend of mine had an old Ferrari, and that one one of my favorites cosmetic pieces.

Yeah,if it's a manual you could make one out of 1/8-1/4" steel plate if you have a mill or a CNC machine!Just prototype it first in cardboard then plywood. You could also make it out of carbon fiber if you take the prototype and make a mold from it.you would also want to fab up a thinner stick since Ferrari's and other exotics with them need that(otherwise the gates would be too wide with too little material between them)Is it practical?Umm... NO!But that doesn't mean you shouldn't do it!

Hmmm.... I wonder if it would look good with sheet metal. I just found out that my cousin's husband works in a mill into carious things. I wonder if he might be willing to help me out sometimes this summer. If it does pan out and we get one that works good, I'll see about selling them here on the forum. I think I need to make a trip to Azle to see my family

are we talking about this??

if it is what u are talking about i dont think it would work. i was thinking about doin this to mine then selling them cause i have a hookup at Fortin here in ohio. i took my boot off and fount that the pivot isnt low enough to allow any movement where the plate would be. if it was about 3 inches higher up the shifter i think it might but that would take a lot of modification. i dont know if u know what im talkin about. i quit. sorry if this isnt what u meant.

EDIT:: if pic doesnt work go here.

If we were to fabricate a new shifter, do you think it would be possible to make this "fence"? Anyone have an idea?

EDIT: What about a 3" chop job on the shifter to lower that bend in the shifter? Or am I attacking this from the wrong angle?
