hi i have a 1998 nissan sentra when i drive it gives me a tugging motion and if i try to press gas to go faster it cuts out all de lights come up on the dash board.I have done a dianostic test got no error codes sometimes it drive like a dream then next time it does the tugging thing and when u press the gas to go faster it cuts out.Can anyone share any ideas what could be causing the problem?
it could be a couple of things, it could be the maf sensor, that you can find out just by starting your engine and while idle just pull out the maf sensor rev it a couple of times and if the engine runs smoothly its the sensor.
number 2 it could be a problem with the piston rings, and what happens is that oil goes through the sides of ur pistons and get into the combustion chamber which gets the spark plugs dirty, a couple of ways to check that is to take out ur sparkplugs and see if the tips are really dark, or see if you have oil coming out of your breather, so take of the hose and rev the engine a couple of times and see if it leaks oil
thats what happened to me bfore so you can check those out and let me know

hey thanks for the advice i check those things u mention and share the out come. I have another question my guages are not working the only thing by the guages that work is the clock. The feul guage sometimes needle at F or at E all the time same with the temperature guage at H or C speedometer always at 0 so is the rpm guage.Question can this malfunction of the guages cause the car to act in the same manner as i said earlier tugging or anything of that nature? Since electrcity going to these malfunctioning guages would get throw somewhere esle since guages are not working properly? Finally can these guages be fix or would i have to buy the whole cluster ?
i dont know that much about the guages yet but one thing that im pretty sure of is that with time they start malfunctioning, find a dash in the locol junkyard and buy the whole thing and just change them hope this helps
ps sorry for the delay on the answer

Try removing the cluster and un-plugging the connectors and re-inserting them. You could also try a contact cleaner spray.
Be careful the connections are only to thin copper flex circuit.
Also try cleaning the IACV it seems to be the number one cause of idle problems.
