I've read through the old posts about this, but couldn't find exactly what I'm looking for. On my '97 sentra the wipers aren't working again. 2 days ago I went under the cowl and found that the linkage point between the wipers and the motor came apart. So in other words, the two wiper linkages were connected still (move one, the other moves) but they were not connected to the motor anymore. I set the two bars back together, but they didn't seem to 'snap' in place or anything. I was weary that it was fixed, but the wipers were working fine. Sure enough it came back apart. I'm going to call my nissan dealer later today, but was hoping somebody might know the name of what part I'm looking to replace. Thanks for any help.
Ok, the answer to my question is that the linkage needed to be replaced. Once it pops apart once, you have to put a new one in. The linkage piece you buy has a bushing on it that snaps down in place.
When mine came apart, I put a screw through the top plate into the ball of the joint (right in the middle). Thought I could limp it along for a few months before I had to replace the whole assembly, but that was over a year ago. Still working fine, but I've probably jinxed myself and it will probably fall apart tonight

Most likely the clips are bad. I've had to do this. The clips are nearly impossible to put in, so it's easier to replace the wiper arms with new ones that will have new clips in them. You can get these brand new on ebay for $20 a piece. Here's a link:
When mine went out,I fixed it by wrapping rubber band around the clips to let it hold. Then put a piece of wiring tape around the rubber band to protect it not being scratched, and put gease around the rubber band and the tape for the linkage movement. This is a poor boy method but worked like a champ.
I eventually switch the linkage, but that saved me some bucks for a while.

This is stupid. Do it right the first time and stop jimmy rigging stuff. The only purpose of this is if you were stuck and had to have wipers for a moment. No sense of tearing it apart again.
