First: I am the owner of a used 1996 Sentra GXE with about 45,000 miles on it. Since I am not the original owner, is the catalytic converter on my car still convered by the 8 yr warranty on the converter?
Second: Once in a while I smell gas inside the car and outside the car. I changed the gas cap but this did not fix the problem. The dealer sugested that I change a valve in the back of the car in the vapor line between the gas tank and the charcoal canister. What does this valve do and why would it cause me to smell gas vapor inside/outside the car?
ALso, three times gas has leaked past the gas cap after refueling the car. This has not happened for over three months.
Could the purge valve on the canister also cause my problem?
