My A/C is stupidly horrible on my sentra. This thing actually has the nerve to blow hotter air at me than it is outside. I checked the low pressure side while running. It was right between the blue and yellow on the self charge gauge (right where it's supposed to be). If it has pressure, then I have no idea why I dont have cold. Having pressure means I have refridgerant. Maybe there is a slow leak and all of the refridgerant is dry? This is why neither of my mitsubishis have any A/C system.
Actually. come to think of it, I dont hear clicks from it disengauging and enguaging. But, from the pulley, it's not locked up or anything.
Ok the pulley turns, but does the clutch engage and turn the clutch plate (and compressor.)
If you don't have enough Freon pressure the clutch will not engage.
Not unless you have a Prius !!
The compressor is engine driven, and the clutch and controls are electric.
I meant that I thought the clutch for the A/C was engauged by electic current. Since this car has had about 100,000 other things wrong electrically, Im going to see if there is current to the clutch.

The clutch will NOT engage if the pressure is too low, or too high !!
So if the clutch plate and center axis of the compresor aren't turning locked to the pulley its safe to say there is no current to the clutch.
the first thing to do is to measure the pressure in pounds/ sq inch and record the temperature. In the FSM will be the specs for the low side switch. If there is enough to activate the clutch then go ahead and start the car and watch the gauges,
good luck...
