95 Sentra Consumes Fuel Like a V8

Hi there.

I'm from the P.I. and a newbie in this forum.

I have a 95 sentra b 14 1.6 liter auto shift with around 62,000 km on the odometer. Everything works fine except for its horrendous fuel consumption at roughly 20 li for every 100 km.

I already replaced all plugs and changed the oil but the problem remains. Car pulls fine so I do not think there's any major problem with the engine. I tried to adjust what looked like an air adjustment screw at the left side of the throttle body (facing engine) below the air filter to lean the misture but the ecu seems to be compensating bringing back idling to around 800 rpm. I just retruned it to where it used to be.

I suspect air fuel maybe too rich coz I smell unburnt fuel at the exhaust. Any ideas how I can correctly adjust?

Thanks.

to adjust either the idle or ignition timing, you'd have to set the ECU in service mode. can't remember the specifics, but you'd have to disconnect the TPS and blip the accelerator several times. more info should be around here.

I'll try disconnecting the TPS to adjust. Will this turn the CEL on and if it does, will the CEL disappear when I reconnect?

Note that though I have 1.6GA engine, throttle layout in my side of the world seems different compared to the USA as I have my airfilter directly on top of the intake and injectors.

Thanks.

I'm having the same problem on my '96 B14.
Poor fuel economy and I'm smelling unburnt fuel from the exhaust. I bought a new throttle body, changed the oil, plugs, cleaned the injectors, but no improvement.

my engine layout is similar to what Mr232 described, airfilter directly on top of intake

I believe I remember a comment on the forum here that the temp sensor in the intake will produce these problems if its bad.
Worth checking.
