the shift knob will probably have to be cut off. there is a good write up on installing a ss on here somewhere. click the search button and see what pops up

Do not cut the knob off, it will just twist off. It is very hard. I used a pair of channel lock pliers to get mine loose. If you are planning to use the stock shift knob over, do not use the pliers(they leave indentations in it), just use your hands.

Mine was really glued on TIGHT! I used a big ass pipe wrench, it ruined the leather on the shift knob, but my B+M came with a new one anyway.

Which B&M short shifter did you get? I am looking at their 45087 model. I am looking for someone who has one to tell me how it is, so if you have this one, please let me know how you like it.

aren't the B&M short shift kits the same for the B14 chassis? i have one and the only thing i noticed is some added noise due to the metal ball joint, instead of the OE plastic/delrin ball.
other than that, the shifts are pretty precise, and when paired with some ES bushing inserts, a much more solid feel.

Yep 45087. I love it, no issues with squeaking or anything else. I also installed the Energy Suspension shifter bushing (like $4), which made it that much more solid. Install was straight forward, the only gotcha is when you tighten the shifter arm to the rod, tighten it pretty good. Then check it... you CAN make it too tight! The shifter will feel very tight, loosen the bolt back 1/4 turn and its perfect. When you do the install, you will know what I mean.

Where did you get this "Energy Suspension shifter bushing", and what does it do exactly. It sounds interesting.

the ES bushings i got are black, so it's kinda hard to tell, but they're both mounted on the outside of the shift rod. look to the Rh side of pic.

I cannot really tell where they are because I am not that familiar with the shifter and manual trannys in general. Is this a pic of the unerside of the car?? Is this an easy install, and if so, how long does it take and is it worth it?

I think it's worth it, its a pretty easy install. Really easy if you have access to a lift. It took me about 2.5 hours and it was my first time dealing with any of that stuff.

Yeah, it should be pretty easy then. I have acess to a lift and my dad was a mechanic and my auto teacher will know what to do so I think I can get some help with it. Thanks.

Call Greg Vogel at GSpec, he'll hook you up.

https://ssl.perfora.net/www.gspec.co...dex.shopscript

The Bushing is $7, its at the bottom of the page.

The red is where the bushing goes, the green is the firewall side of your crossmember under the engine (for reference).

Hey captain_shrapnel, not to hijack the thread, but do you remember how you got the old bushing off? I tried and tried a few years ago when I installed my B&M, but could not get those bolts off to install the new bushing. Any tips? I still have the bushing and would love to install it.

Thanks.
