i have a 96 200sx se-r, just the other day it started making this weird sound. you know there it always this weird kinda "werrrrrrrrrrr" sound with most manual cars when you reverse, well now mine makes that sound in drive and i dont know what it is. its just that same high pitched sound that cars make when you reverse kinda fast. it does it when i accelerate and also when i am stopped and turn the wheel it does it. i dont know if its the transmission or what, but it seems to be getting louder everyday. any help would be appreciated. thanks.
The noise is constant when the car is running, whether its moving or stopped? Open the hood and listen to see if you can source the problem... maybe a pump going out or something low on fluid (power steering fluid ok?).
lol ok so i dont have to make a new thread., mine started this to today, altho it is quiet, and goes with the rpms

Intake, Front and Rear Strut bars, Major exhaust leak.98style tail lights, clear corners, and halo angle eyes, Hot Shot headers/Downpipe(still need money for the rest of it)
hmm, the best way to describe it, if i am having the same sounds as the origanal poster, is the way a set of strait cut gears sound in the transmission, altho not as loud

You said it goes with the rpms, does the car moving matter at all? If not, then its not a wheel bearing. How about ac, does that matter? I think its a belt driven accessory, based on what you said. That narrows it down alot. As said above, suspect power steering pump (check fluid!), also water pump and ac compressor. Those are the usual suspects, but open the hood and listen while someone else revs the motor and see if you can find where the noise is coming from.
thanks for all the help guys, i just changed both wheel bearings so i knew it couldnt be that, but it turned out to be power steering was extremely low on fluid because of leaks on two of the hoses. i tightened up the hoses and got some power steering fluid with stop leak and it completely fixed the problem.
