stumped on cal/fed spec

ok, first off, i haved searched and searched and searched, mabye im just not typing in the right words but i just cant seem to figure out exactly whats up with my car.

I looked under the hood and the sticker says its a 1995 california model sentra xe. now from all the searching i have done i have found that:
CALI models have a close coupled cat and a secondary cat
FED models just have a standard cat untill later models or something.

well my cali model has the pre-cat but there doesnt appear to be a cat under the car. just a resonater. its stock exaust, original muffler nuthing has been changed on it. Im realy confused and i cant seem to figure out whats up. Anyone clear up my confusion?

For reference my VIN # is 1n4ab41d2sc777231 also i will post pics if need be. Thanks.

Thats strange. There should be one under the car. Are you the original owner? Possibly the last owner removed it. Im glad emissions arent required up here. I can pollute all I want.

i suppose thats likely, but the piping looks exatly the same all the way through, no extra welds, different color, looks completly stock with no modifications. Nissan muffler, silencer everything.

maybe the whole system was replaced and they didnt put a cat pipe on. I dont know thats wierd. I dont know why you would want to have both on unless you are required to. I dont know how strict emissions are in California but only 4 counties in Washington require you to pass emissions so its great plus my 73' Chevy 4x4 wouldnt have to pass in any state anyway. Sentra is in good condition so I could pass if I had too.

When I purchased my 97 I was under the impression although it was a fed car it met the Cali standards. It has the close coupled Cat but I believe it does not have a cat under the floor.
Maybe someone else with a cali car that vintage can help out.
