speedometer calibration necesarry for bigger wheels??

my manager and i were calibrating his truck for his new 20's on the dodge.

he said he was going 30 while i was going 20...

this started to get me thinking if my car is even calibrated correctly.

99 sentra GXE LE... went from 14''s to 16" mr7s

should sentras need calibration or are they smart enough.

When you changed size did you keep the diameter the same?
ie from 185/60/14 to 195/50/15 to 205/40/16
If so you are ok.
If not, no the car speedo is not smart, and your odo and speedo will be wrong.

yea thats what my tires are.. 205/40/16

and i was telling the guy at the service depo at nissan about having to calibrate if the diameter was off but he kept saying the sensors will read the revolutions anyway...

thanks though.

so if the diameter changed how would one go about callibrating? buying a callibrator or shop work?

The sensor reads the revolutions and does not know the dia of the tires.

I dont know how you could adjust this on a sentra.
For my suburban with mechanical drive they put an adjustment gear box to correct the speedo. Also you can change the speedo drive gear.
But for electronic pick up you would have to change the sensor drive gear, speedo head or ECU if it goes through the ECU.
